Like a jar you housed the infinite tenderness,
and the infinite oblivion shattered you like a jar.
Some ten years ago, Alex Row lost the woman he loved. Since then, he's spent his days dwelling on the past. His life hasn't been void of accomplishments, though: a graduate of the Anatoray Officer's Academy, he captains the capital ship Silvana, which has never lost a battle. People tell hushed cautionary tales about the airship and its mysterious and feared captain; they've become the stuff of legends.

With his Vice-Captain Sophia Forrester, his Crew Chief Tatiana Wisla, and a loyal staff on board the Silvana, it's Alex's job to deliver a precious and irreplaceable "cargo" -- eleven-year-old Alvis Hamilton -- safely to the Emperor of Anatory. But with his own agenda, the likelihood of Alex following any man's orders is slim.
